Vitoria 1 Botafogo 0Botafogo's mini-run of success - consecutive wins against Sao Caetano and Internacional - came to an abrupt and disappointing halt in Salvador. The result also reflected a game that sagged for the main part with Vitoria seeming uncomfortable with the expectations of improving a poor recent home record. Vitoria, despite the presence of 'penta' champions Edilson and Vampeta, also look a pale imitation of the side that scared the life out of Flamengo in the Copa do Brasil semi-final.It was fitting then that the only goal of the game came through the generosity of the Fogo back-four who opened up to allow Magnum an unhindered finish. Despite the presence of Magnum on the scoresheet the quality of shooting from both sides was woeful. None more so than in the case of Schwenck, who having worked hard to win a penalty early in the second half - squandered it by hitting the spot-kick closer to the corner flag than the Vitoria goal. A case of "Honey The Keeper Schwenck the Goal". Other things that did not quite come off for Fogo were the
substitutions. After recent progress for the alvinegros this was a step backward, exposing the limitations the club has in terms of cover in certain positions and the inconsistency - a performance that was the other extreme from the battling display at Sao Caetano.
