Botafogo 1 Figueirense 1Botafogo flattered to deceive once more against one of the unfancied teams making some of the early running in the Brazilian championship. By half-time alvinegros were scratching their heads as to why Fogo had yet to record a win coming into this encounter with second placed Figueirense. All of the side looked closer to the pace than they were in the early games. Luizão, the pentacampeão was full of earnest endeavour, pretty much as he was for Luiz Felipe Scolari in the critical phase of the World Cup qualifiers.Perhaps not enough to scare international defences at the moment but certainly good enough to be an awkward proposition for defenders in the Brasileirão. The real revelation though was Ruy - while his pate makes him look like something out of Star Trek the right back was one of Fogo's best weapons coming forward. Unfortunately a third yellow card keeps him out of the Carioca derby with Vasco. Daniel did well to win a penalty to give Fogo the lead but Botafogo
collapsed after half-time and the reaction to the Figueirense's
equaliser was tame. Still doubts about the central defence and the
staying power of players like Camacho who had enjoyed an outstanding
first half. Despite the value of experience the side lacks running power
due to the fact that several veterans are first choices. The reserves
are not at the moment of comparable technical quality - a headache for
any coach who takes on Fogo, realising the limits on resources at the
club. |
