Who to Choose for Broadband?

Just about every ISP now offers a broadband service.  The variety is bewildering with different speeds, capped services, flexible connections, monthly / yearly contracts as well as a huge variety in the costs.

In addition, other factors such as the reliability of the service and the quality of the support offered to customers can make the difference when selecting a broadband provider.

We have studied the market on your behalf and reckon we have found the best value product currently available.  Eclipse have long been rated one of the most highly respected broadband providers in the UK for speed, reliability and quality of service.  Their latest 2Mb Home Broadband offers all that you would expect from broadband with the addition of free evening and weekend telephone calls!

ADSL Date Announced

Schivas Exchange 'Ready for Service' by 6th July 2005

BT have yesterday announced the date for the ADSL upgrade on the Schivas exchange.  We should have broadband available by 6th July 2005.

BT have also confirmed that the exchange will be getting the full ADSL upgrade rather than the less capable Exchange Activate product.  This means that, subject to line conditions, broadband of up to 2Mb will be available in the Schivas area very soon (that is 40 times faster than your existing dial up connection!).

Schivas Exchange will get Broadband!!!

The Scottish Executive have just announced a partnership arrangement with BT to roll out Broadband to the remoter and less well populated parts of Scotland.  As part of this initiative Schivas exchange will get broadband (hopefully before the end of 2005).

FAQ regarding the initiative from Broadband for Scotland (90Kb PDF)

We have contacted the local MSP (Nora Radcliffe) to seek her support in getting Schivas as near to the top of the list as possible.  This only seems fair given that we have clearly the greatest level of demand of any area in the UK (let alone Scotland).  She has agreed to contact BT and see what their plans are regarding our exchange.

Summary of the correspondence to date with MSP

A huge thank you to everyone who has shown their support for the campaign. It is down to your commitment that has lead the Scottish Executive to realise that broadband IS important for areas such as ours.  We aren't there yet, but it is much closer!
